2013 CLOS MOGADOR Priorat 98 pts. $100
“In one of the best vintages in Priorat, the 2013 reveals depth, elegance and incipient complexity. This blend of 40% Garnacha (from 80-year-old vines), 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Syrah offers a highly-perfumed bouquet of ripe berries, candied flowers and incense. Juicy, focused and pure, with sappy black raspberry and blueberry flavors. The extremely long, mineral-driven finish reveals silky tannins, and outstanding clarity. A remarkable Clos Mogador. 98 pts.” – Wine Advocate

2014 CLOS ERASMUS Priorat 97 pts. $220
“True to place and vintage, Clos Erasmus is better than ever. There is a little more Syrah in the blend of the 2014, where it reached around 30% to complement the majority of Garnacha. This vintage really blossoms with a mixture of violets, earth, smoky meat and black raspberries. The palate is medium to full-bodied with terrific balance and elegance combined with inner strength. This is simply terrific. 97 pts.” -Wine Advocate

VINO GIFT IDEA #2

What’s the next best thing to a cliff-side table in Positano? The wines that were in your glass, of course. The MARISA CUOMO estate on the spectacular Amalfi Coast in Furore is legendary for its old-vine, indigenous whites and reds. This duo of red and white is a most welcome gift during winter’s coldest and darkest days. Special price for this two-pack is $106.25! Save 15%!

2015 MARISA CUOMO Fiorduva Costa d’Amalfi $75
Their flagship wine is considered one of Italy’s top ten white wines. The native grapes used to make the wine —Ripoli, Fenile and Ginestra— are rare varieties found only along this sun-kissed coastline. An exceptionally rich and concentrated “winter white,” dense and smooth on the palate with enticing aromas of peach, lime and ginger and rich ripe stone fruit flavors and carmelized notes. Finishes very long and fresh.

2012 MARISA CUOMO Ravello Rosso Riserva $50
A blend of 50-50 Aglianico and Piedirosso, this beautiful expression does a great job of presenting red berry aromas of cherry and blackberry that are contrasted against marine notes of salt and white mineral. These diverse characteristics flow together in unison. The wine’s appearance is glossy and darkly saturated, and the mouthfeel is powered by firm structure, rich concentration and spicy oak. Seamless, long finish.

REMEMBER 2005? Patriots won the Super Bowl, Tiger Woods won the Masters and British Open, Hurricane Katrina unleased its fury on New Orleans, and YouTube made its debut. Vintages’ Eric & Carolyn visited Barolo & Barbaresco during the harvest. 2005 was also a memorable vintage for most of France. While much of the wine was snapped up upon release, VINTAGES is offering a duo of 2005 Cabernet-based wines for a compelling comparison. Special price for this two pack is $131.75!  Save 15%!

2005 DOM. de TREVALLON Apilles IGP $80 (Provence, France)
Shipped directly from the estate cellar this year, this 2005 Trevallon promises to be spectacular. This unique and rebellious blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from Provence planted in the limestone rock walls of the Apilles mountains offers transporting aromas of the provencal garrigue, and generous fruit with ripe, velvety tannins that promise a long life.

2005 CHATEAU de CAMENSAC $75 Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux
Fifth-growth Château Camensac lies just over the border of St-Julien. The 65-hectare vineyard is planted to 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot. After some decades of relative obscurity, the wine is now widely regarded as one to watch, combining structure and suppleness while showing plenty of deep blackcurrant. The 2005 has the generous fruit and structure of the vintage with an emphasis on sweet cherry fruit with chewy tannins.  “A silky and fruity wine with currants and spices. Medium body, fine tannins. Very good indeed.” – WS

Rock-out with two 2013 Barolos Rocche!
2013 is yet another lucky vintage for the Piedmont region of Italy! Barolo, like Burgundy, features many distinctive vineyards including the two “Rocches,” – one the premier cru of La Morra with great intensity and strength, and the elegant, sensual Rocche from Castiglione di Falletto. A revealing comparison of how nebbiolo expresses the terroir of Barolo! Special price for this two pack is $165.75! Save 15%!

2013 RENATO RATTI Barolo Rocche dell’ Annunziata 95 pts. $100 (La Morra, Barolo)
Rocche dell’Pietro Ratti carries on the impressive legacy of his legendary father, Renato. His 2013 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata is aged in smaller wood and barrique for a robust and opulent style. Beautifully redolent of dark cherry and spice with lingering notes of balsam and herb that add focus to the wine’s already fragrant bouquet. 95 pts.” — WA

2013 BROVIA Barolo Rocche di Castiglione $95
“The 2013 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is powerful and surprisingly dense and rich. Sweet floral notes meld into a core of succulent red-fleshed fruit. This is a surprisingly ample, richly textured Rocche with huge density, creaminess and body, all qualities that are not often seen in Barolos from this site. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, mint, wild flowers and blood orange give the wine its distinctive signatures. Today, the 2013 impresses for its mid-palate depth, aromatic intensity and racy personality. 97 pts.” – Vinous
