WINE TASTING: Grower Champagnes from the Thierry Thiese Portfolio Fri. Dec. 18, 5-7:30pm, Belmont.

Nothing says “CELEBRATE” like the explosive sound of a champagne cork! Tom Modica from Atlantic Imports will present select grower champagnes from the Thierry Thiese collection. Champagnes for this tasting may include:

AUBRY Brut 1er cru $45   92 pts.
Only 25 cases of the Aubry were imported into the U.S. “Cinnamon, poached pear, apple, honey and smoke on the pungent nose. Fleshy orchard fruit flavors are complicated by floral honey and candied ginger, with impressive back-end grip. Reminds me a lot of a wine from Krug. Finishes with very good grip and an echo of ginger.”– IWA PIERRE GIMONNET Brut 1er cru Blanc de Blancs $58 92 pts.

“Pale gold with a frothy mousse. Highly aromatic bouquet of tangerine, pear, minerals, sweet butter and lees; smells like a Puligny-Montrachet. Fine, focused and pure, offering spicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a strong mineral bite. The minerality gains strength on the finish, which is spicy and strikingly energetic. This pure, graceful Champagne would be perfect with oysters.” - IWA

PIERRE PETERS Brut Blanc de Blancs ‘Grand Cru’ $58 92 pts. “Vivid citrus and green apple aromas are complicated by subtle lees, spice and brioche qualities, as well as a slow-building floral quality. Firm and focused, offering tangy orange and orchard fruit flavors along with anise and sweet butter.”–IWA
GASTON CHIQUET Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs $60  91 pts. “Exotically perfumed, smoky bouquet of pungent flowers, pear skin, orange, lime, sweet butter and minerals; smells like a Meursault. Fleshy orchard fruit flavors are complicated by musky herbs, turning nuttier with air.”- IWA

RENE GEOFFROY Brut Rose 1er cru $75  92 pts.
“Pungent cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by dried flowers and anise. Weighty red and dark fruit flavors show palate-coating depth and very good clarity, with a hint of bitter chocolate and a strong cherry quality on the back end.
